Letter To Bee

You can find more poems at Rainy Day Poems for Kids

Here's one by Emily Dickinson, who lived here in Massachusetts.  Click on her name for more information about her or go to Brain Pop to watch a video!

Bee! I'm expecting you!
Was saying Yesterday
To Somebody you know
That you  were due-

The Frogs got Home last Week-
Are settled, and at work-
Birds, mostly back-
The Clover warm and thick-

You'll get my Letter by
The seventeenth; Reply
Or better, be with me-
Yours, Fly.

A Poem About Trying Your Best

Your Best

If you always try your best
Then you'll never have to wonder
About what you could have done
If you'd summoned all your thunder.

And if your best
Was not as good
As you'd hoped it would be,
You still could say,
"I gave today
All that I had in me."

Langston Hughes

Langston Hughes is one of my favorite poets!  Here are two beautiful short poems of his.

Hope

Sometimes when I'm lonely,
Don't know why,
Keep thinkin' I won't be lonely
By and by.

My People

The night is beautiful,
So the faces of my people.

The stars are beautiful,
So the eyes of my people.

Beautiful, also, is the sun.
Beautiful, also, are the souls of my people.

Playing "Dress-Up"" was a favorite thing for my kids when they were little, so this poem reminded me of all the fun you can have, just pretending!!

Let's Dress Up

Let's dress up in grown-up clothes:
Swishing skirts
That touch our toes
Wispy veils
That hide our nose.
Let's dress up today.

Feathered bonnet
Trimmed with lace;
Rouge and lipstick
On our face;
An umbrella
(Just in case).
Let's dress up today.

Now we're ready.
Let's go walking
Down the street
(Pretend we're talking).
Walking
Talking
Walking
Talking,
All dressed up today.

If you decide to dress up, take a picture and send it to me to post!! lee@bpsk12.org

Weather

Dot a dot   dot a dot
Spotting the windowpane
Spack a spack speck    flick a flack fleck
Freckling the windowpane

A spatter a scatter   a wet cat a clatter
A splatter a rumble outside.
Umbrella umbrella umbrella umbrella
Bumbleshoot barrel of rain.

Slosh a galosh  slosh a galosh
Slither and slather and glide
A puddle a jump a puddle a jump
A puddle a jump puddle splosh
A juddle a pump a luddle a dump a
Puddmuddle jump in and slide!
